TAIPEI, Taiwan—Taiwan National Security Bureau (NSB) Director General Tsai De-sheng said on March 20 that his country is under very serious cyber attacks from China. Attackers are trying to damage Taiwan’s infrastructure, and information theft has expanded from military and political areas to technology and business secrets.

According to statistics from the NSB, the NSB Internet website received 3.34 million attacks in the past year, averaging about 10,000 per day.

The Chinese communist regime’s cyber attacks pose a serious threat to the Taiwanese government and to private enterprise, Tsai said in a committee meeting at Taiwan Legislative Yuan (Taiwan’s legislature). “In the past, cyber attacks sponsored by the Chinese Communist Party mainly aimed at stealing information,” Tsai said. “But now we found they’re shifting to targeting the infrastructure, so that they can sabotage our infrastructure when they need. That will affect the entire Taiwan’s transportation and financial networks.”

Tsai said that large amounts of environmental information have stolen in the past, and many peoples’ personal information may be compromised. The Chinese regime may have set up a database of individual Taiwan citizen’s personal information.
