Princess Lilian passed away on Sunday March 10 at the age of 97, announced the Swedish Royal Court on their official webpage. Princess Lilian was the Princess of Sweden. She was married to Prince Bertil, the uncle of the King of Sweden.
“Princess Lilian died peacefully during the afternoon at her home on Djurgården in Stockholm,” it stated.
“It is with great sorrow that my family and I announce the death of Princess Lilian on Sunday 10 March. The Princess was a much loved member of our family, and we all remember her as a happy, funny and quick-witted person,” Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus, the King of Sweden, wrote in a statement.
“She spread such joy, and always had the ability to create a warm and pleasant atmosphere around her. The young members of the family always appreciated her jokes and her playful manner,” he wrote.
“The Princess shared Prince Bertil’s commitment to sports and the Royal Swedish Automobile Club. She was always loyal, and wholeheartedly supported the Royal Family and Sweden as a nation. We have lost a very dear and much loved member of our family,” the King wrote.
Princess Lilian was born on August 30, 1915 in Wales. She married Prince Bertil on December 7, 1976. Prince Bertil died on January 5, 1997.
The princess fulfilled a number of duties that were previously the responsibility of her husband—especially in the field of sport, states the Swedish Royal Court website.
