Remy, a stray dog from Romania that was estimated to be around 3 years old, seemed to have all the qualities that would make him the perfect companion for any family. However, no one in the village wanted to adopt Remy, who lived on the streets and slept on the sidewalk. Fortunately, with the help of a rescue organization, Remy found his forever home in North Carolina.
In addition, Remy had been a victim of “old, cruel ’traditions’ [that] are still alive there,” including having his “nose burnt with a red-hot iron to boost their immunity system and help cure distemper.”
When the staff at the rescue organization encountered him, Remy was sleeping on the street and only surviving because of the generosity of a shopkeeper who was feeding him. In addition to the permanent scar on his nose where he had been burned with a red-hot iron, the staff also “noticed that the tip of his left ear was torn off.”
During the campaign in that area, the staff fed him, neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated him. They even put a collar around his neck so that he wouldn’t be considered a “feral dog.” The sweet dog always waited at the same place whether rain or shine to be saved.
Witnessing the plight of this homeless friendly dog, and upon learning that no one wanted to adopt him in the village, the staff at the organization knew that they couldn’t let the dog go uncared for, so they took him under their wing temporarily.
At their rescue organization, Remy wasn’t alone, as he had friends and toys to play with. He was also given a warm bed to sleep on.
Upon coming across his video on YouTube, a family in Charlotte, North Carolina, fell in love with him and put forward an adoption request, which got approved. His forever family then renamed him Milou.
Milou’s new family is able to offer him a huge backyard to play in, and he has also befriended their dog Lupo, along with their family cats.
From the streets of Romania to a loving home in North Carolina, Milou has come a long way. Most importantly, he has found a family that wanted him for who he is.
