Stewart Airport was awarded $1,717,911 to rehabilitate two of its runways. The money comes from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and will be used to rehabilitate a combined 17,821 feet of runway for the purpose of maintaining the structural integrity of the pavement. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the funding on Sept. 14.
As part of the same funding package, the Kingston-Ulster Airport in Ulster County will receive $71,200 for airport development and obstruction removal from one of its runways.
“This federal funding will allow two vital Hudson Valley airports to make critical infrastructure upgrades that will enable safer, more efficient service for the passengers and pilots who fly in and out of Orange and Ulster Counties every day,” said Schumer in a press release.
