Stephen Colbert Offers Own Apology to Australia, Parodies Johnny Depp

Updated:

Stephen Colbert issued his own apology to Australia—sort of.

After Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s April 18 apology to Australian government officials for illegally smuggling dogs into the country, industry peers couldn’t help but notice how uncomfortable the pair looked.

Comedian Ricky Gervais compared the video to a hostage situation on Twitter.

Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” gave his own assessment of the apology on the same day. Replaying the apology for his viewers, Colbert said the actors’ apology “was absolutely from the heart, totally convincing apology, until you zoom the picture out,” revealing a pair of kangaroos clutching assault rifles.

“They keep the bullets in their pouch,” Colbert jokingly said.
