Getting out in the spring sunshine brightens the spirits, and getting the hands dirty for a good cause is a rewarding feeling. To that end, The Epoch Times compiled a list of outdoor springtime volunteer opportunities.
Hands On New York Day
Saturday, April 21, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
New York Cares expects about 5,000 volunteers to clean up 80 city green spaces in one day. Volunteers will plant, mulch, paint, compost, and more. JetBlue Airways, the New York Restoration Project, and Million Trees NYC, host their annual One Thing That’s Green event on the same day to plant trees across the five boroughs.

Central Park Conservancy
Volunteering at Central Park can involve landscape maintenance, becoming a tour guide, a greeter, or picking up trash.
MillionTrees NYC
With a million-tree goal, New York City Parks Department is always looking for helping hands to plant new trees or care for existing trees. New Yorkers can find an event near them by visiting the MillionTrees NYC website.
IOBY New York Projects
IOBY New York is a crowd-sourcing website for garnering volunteers or donations for environmental projects. For example, one project currently featured, Greening the Newkirk Avenue Corridor, has raised $20 towards a goal of $461 through the site and is still looking for volunteers. The project needs people to help on April 15 and May 20 to plant flowers and maintain trees.
Green Teens
Teenagers in all five boroughs can join an NYC Parks Green Teens team to clean up local parks by caring for trees, cleaning up litter, and more.
