Grand Am’s Spirit of Daytona Racing has signed up-and-coming youngster Ricky Taylor to its Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype squad for the 2013 season, luring the 23-year-old away from his father’s Wayne Taylor Racing/SunTrust team.
Taylor will co-drive the No. 90 SDR Coyote-Corvette with Richard Westbrook.
Taylor has had a spectacular three-year run with Wayne Taylor Racing racking up seven wins and ten poles and finishing second in the drivers’ championship twice.
“After three great years with the SunTrust team, I have learned an incredible amount and am extremely thankful for the time that I had with the team,” Taylor told Grand-Am.com.
“I am also looking forward to the opportunity to drive for Troy Flis and the Spirit of Daytona team as they have proven to be a top team and I anticipate some great results and learning a lot from all of the guys including Richard who I have watched race for many years.”
SDR won three Rolex series races in 2012 and finished third in the points. Wayne Taylor/SunTrust won three races and finished fifth.
