South Africa won the Final of the Emirates Airlines Rugby Sevens, in Dubai overcoming Australia 33-7 on Sunday Dec 7, 2014. This win moves them up the Standings into 2nd place on 37 points after completing 2-Legs of the 9-Leg Series. The World Sevens Series now moves onto Port Elizabeth, South Africa for the 3rd Leg of the competition to be played this coming weekend Dec 13-14. South Africa have just hit top form just in time to give their home fans expectations for a further win on home soil.
In the Semi-finals in Dubai, South Africa outplayed New Zealand (28-0) who had been in dominating form during the earlier matches of the tournament, and Australia defeated Fiji 29-24, leaving Fiji and New Zealand to fight it out for 3rd place. Fiji went on to take the 3rd place win 26-12 to give them a further 17 points to keep them at the top of the standings on 39 points.
England, Scotland and Wales were all beaten at the Cup Quarter Finals stage by New Zealand (29-7), Australia (22-17) and Fiji (31-7) respectively as were Argentina by South Africa (40-0). Argentina won the Plate beating England 21-19 in the Final. This left the cup to be decided between the Southern Hemisphere teams.
