The Cleveland Indians have announced they’ve come to terms with free agent outfielder Grady Sizemore on a one-year deal. According to a source on MLB, the deal has a base salary of $5 million with incentives.
The three-time all-star became a free agent this off-season when Cleveland declined his $9 million player option.
Sizemore finished in the top 12 of the MVP voting three straight years (2006-08) while averaging 28 home runs, 117 runs scored, 31 stolen bases and 178 hits a season before injuries derailed his once-promising career.
The 29-year-old, who won Gold Glove Awards in 2007 and 2008 has played an average of just 70 games the past three seasons.
Said Sizemore’s agent Joe Urbon according to Cleveland’s website, “He appreciates the interest from other clubs, and he just felt that the best place to reassert himself as a great player is in Cleveland.”
