Service on the 1, 2, and 3 subway lines were suspended between Chambers Street and 96th Avenue Tuesday morning because of signal problems, a Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson confirmed.
Local service was restored before noon with significant delays through 1 p.m.
Limited express service on the 2 and 3 trains has been restored as of 1:40 p.m. Delays are still ongoing and riders are advised to use alternate lines.
Update: Service will be restored to normal capacity for the evening rush hours.
Signal issues started at 10:19 a.m. and 1 and 3 train service was shut down. 2 trains were rerouted onto the 5 line from East 149th Street in The Bronx to Nevins Street in Brooklyn.
Signal failure was due to equipment failure in a signal relay room in Times Square.
