Using the most innovative means and treatments available, Oz helps people to keep their bodies and brains in their best shape possible to enjoy what he calls “youthful aging” for the rest of their lives. The Cuban-born and fine New Yorker Oz Garcia, whose clinic is located a few steps away from Central Park on the Upper West Side, is also known for his appreciation of the arts and his style. He is sharing with us his perspective on style in this week’s Style Diary.
Sibylle Eschapasse: Describe your style?
Oz Garcia: Eclectic, British, downtown.
Ms. Eschapasse: If a close friend were to describe your personality in three words, what would they be?
Mr. Garcia: Warm, artsy, curious.
Ms. Eschapasse: How has your style evolved since you were a teenager?
Mr. Garcia: It evolved from being a hippy to bespoke style.
Ms. Eschapasse: What is the wildest thing you have ever worn?
Mr. Garcia: I grew up with David Bowie and hanging out with the New York Dolls. Take it from there...
Ms. Eschapasse: How do you dress on workdays versus weekends?
Mr. Garcia: I dress high and low; often wearing a Zara turtleneck and pants with Tom Ford sneakers and a Chopard watch. Same style usually on weekends as weekday.
Ms. Eschapasse: What are three accessories you can’t live without, and what’s one item that makes you instantly more confident?
Mr. Garcia: Turtleneck, slim fit pants, and cool sneakers.
Ms. Eschapasse: Who have been your greatest fashion influences?
Mr. Garcia: Tom Ford, Christian Dior classic 1990s, Thomas Pink outerwear.
Ms. Eschapasse: Who is your style icon?
Mr. Garcia: Tom Ford.
Ms. Eschapasse: What does having style mean to you? In other words, please define style.
Mr. Garcia: Being a great conversationalist. Comfort internally and externally, professionalism and class.
Ms. Eschapasse: What is one purchase you’re most proud of?
Mr. Garcia: My classic Bulova Watch early 1960s.
Ms. Eschapasse: What would you pay a lot of money for, and what would you never pay much money for?
Mr. Garcia: A great piece of art versus a supposed great piece of art.
Ms. Eschapasse: When you go on the red carpet, how do you want your outfit to make you feel? Which designers can achieve that?
Mr. Garcia: Understated. A tapered Brooks Brothers suit, starched white shirt, and a Windsor knot tie.
Ms. Eschapasse: What do you think of how others dress and what’s your advice to people who would like to develop their personal style?
Mr. Garcia: I grew up in the ‘60s and went to the High School of Art and Design, so my fashion influences were gay art kids. I can appreciate eclectic style and don’t judge anyone by the way they express their fashion. If they need more direction it may be a good idea to find an image coach.
