Aaron Alexis, who shot over a dozen people at the Washington Navy Yard, entered the yard with a shotgun not an AR-15.
Valerie Parlave, assistant director in charge, FBI Washington Field Office, said on Tuesday morning during a press conference that officials have found no evidence that Alexis had an AR-15 as has been reported by some news agencies.
Alexis purchased the shotgun lawfully in Virginia.
Alexis “may have gained access to a handgun at the facility,” said Parlave.
Law enforcement officials continue to search for more information in the case, and are asking anyone who has any information about Alexis to contact the FBI.
They have received hundreds of tips so far.
The shooting on Monday killed 12 people plus Alexis.
