Mike Sherman is out as the head football coach at Texas A&M University, according to a report on their website. Athletic Director Bill Byrne confirmed the information Thursday evening. “Mike Sherman has operated our football program with the highest levels of character and integrity over the past four seasons and has served as a great ambassador for Texas A&M University.”
The school had not yet decided who will coach the team in their upcoming bowl game.
The Aggies, ranked eighth in the preseason, finished the regular season with a disappointing 6-6 record. The team found ways to lose close contests, as five of their six losses were by a combined 17 points.
Sherman, who was finishing his fourth season at the school, was 25-25 overall. His only winning season was 2010 when the Aggies finished 9-4 and lost to LSU in the Cotton Bowl 41-24.
