SAN ANTONIO—Shen Yun Performing Arts’ revival of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization touched the audience on a spiritual level at the Lila Cockrell Theatre in San Antonio at the sold out April 14 matinee.
Rabbi Dr. Charles Abraham, founder of the Institute of Jewish Studies in Greater San Antonio, and his wife Ana Elle Abraham said they felt inspired after watching the show.
“It is so inspiring and so beautiful, and very relaxing as well,” said Mrs. Abraham. “It really sends a good message, it’s a social message to the world.”
Mr. Abraham said the experience was uplifting, and inspirational even at the visual level.
“As a performing arts ... I don’t know anything near it,” Mr. Abraham said.
New York-based Shen Yun presents traditional Chinese values through arts like classical Chinese dance. Themes like good versus evil, benevolence, and respect for the heavens are seen in all the dances, from the folk and ethnic dances of different regions in China, to stories like excerpts from the classic novel Outlaws of the Marsh.
“The work that goes into preparing this is extraordinary,” Mr. Abraham said, adding that for the entire cast he had “just admiration.”
“[It’s] fantastic,” Mr. Abraham said. “The precision and the choreography and the creativity of the presentation was just absolutely outstanding.”
