HAMILTON, Canada—“It’s probably the most spectacular performance I’ve ever seen,” said former professional ballroom dancer and ballroom instructor Nicola Morgan.
“I’ve never seen anything like it, nothing comparable, ever,” she said after watching Shen Yun Performing Arts at Hamilton Place Sunday.
“And I’ve seen world champion dancers.”
“I was brought to tears on several occasions,” said Ms. Morgan, saying everything about the performance moved her.
“I’m pretty much speechless. That doesn’t happen to me very often.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New-York based company that tours the world every year, on a mission to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.
Hamilton Place hosted three performances of the acclaimed group, selling out every one.
“It’s so amazing and spectacular,” she said.
“It really took my breath away and they say that’s what life is about, the moments that take your breath away,” said Ms. Morgan.
She said the performance left her inspired to get her son, who is half Chinese, to enroll in classical Chinese dance lessons.
Shen Yun presents mainly classical Chinese dance, a tradition passed down dynasty after dynasty, enriched over thousands of years.
Classical Chinese dances includes highly technical jumping and tumbling techniques, spins and flips that many people know from acrobats and gymnastics, but actually originate in classical Chinese dance.
These elements of the performance impressed Ms. Morgan because they were elegantly executed, she said.
“It’s just spectacular, such amazing athletes.”
She also appreciated Shen Yun’s vividly coloured costumes and the digitally projected animated backdrops that set the scene for each piece.
“I absolutely have to come back and see it again,” she said.
