VANCOUVER, Canada—Shen Yun Performing Arts captured the heart of Vancouverites with its opening performance on Thursday night at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
Actress and writer Kirsty Provan was among those who took in the performance, which depicts China’s rich traditional culture through music and dance.
“I think it’s beautiful. I think it’s really, really well done,” said Ms. Provan during the intermission.
Noting that both she and her sister, who accompanied her to the show, have training in dance, Ms. Provan praised the dances in Shen Yun.
“I think it’s very well done. The rhythm is fantastic, they’re all right on the ball. And beautiful colours, and the choreography is fantastic,”
“We’re very much enjoying it so far.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun presents colourful and exhilarating performances of classical Chinese dance and music.
“At the core of Shen Yun’s performances is classical Chinese dance with China’s numerous ethnic and folk dance styles rounding out the evening,” says the Shen Yun website.
The show presents a collection of short pieces, taking audiences to different parts of China and different time periods, from the legends of the Chinese culture’s creation over 5,000 years ago to today.
“It was so graceful, and the aesthetics were just so wonderful,” Ms. Provan said about the show.
