COSTA MESA, Calif.—Shen Yun Performing Arts has been wowing audiences in California all week. Thursday evening’s performance at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts brought out Eddie Northen, UPS Vice President of Finance—West Region and the 2011 chairman of the board of directors for the Orange County Business Council.

“We enjoy the show very much,” said Mr. Northen, who was accompanied to the show by his wife, Mayra.

Mr. Northen, who traveled to China and lived in Hong Kong for two years, said the “beautiful” backdrops used in Shen Yun’s performance took them to back to the times they visited the countryside in China.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts presents classical Chinese dance and music. Besides the stunning dance pieces and great talent portrayed by the performers, the show is also enhanced by the use of digital backdrops that transport audiences by depicting scenes of blossoming landscapes, deep forests, or celestial paradises.

“This was a great evening for us,” Mr. Northen said.

Award-Winning Marketing Consultant Stunned

Also at the performance was Lisa Lockhart, who runs her own marketing company. According to her website, Ms. Lockhart is a seasoned, award-winning brand strategist, writer, and producer in broadcast and media communications.

“I think it’s absolutely stunning,” Ms. Lockhart said of Shen Yun. “It’s so beautiful, the costumes, and to be able to understand more about the Chinese culture, and spirituality that underlies so much of the work.”

Elaborating on the beauty, she said: “it’s just beautiful in the way it makes you feel and it’s beautiful on stage.”

The evening was also culturally educational for Ms. Lockhart, who knows that learning China’s true history is a rare gift.

“I think it’s absolutely magnificent to be able to see a lot of the ancient culture of China, to be able to see the ancient culture of China and not have it be censored, and to be able to see the expression of beauty and grace and love that underlies it, it’s just wonderful, it’s magnificent.”

Ms. Lockhart sees Shen Yun’s inner message as what makes it special.

“As somebody who has studied Buddhism…I truly appreciate the freedom of expression and I’m very happy to be able to see that here, where it’s uncensored, and it’s just wonderful to be able to see how people feel about what’s going on in China.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company will have three performances at The Music Center in Los Angeles through to Jan. 14.
