SEATTLE—Seattle Art Museum (SAM), the largest museum in the Pacific Northwest, announced on Wednesday that Derrick R. Cartwright has been chosen to lead the museum. He will be leaving his current position as director of the San Diego Museum of Art to move to Seattle.
He succeeds Mimi Gates who will retire on June 30. Gates is highly respected for her 15 years of visionary leadership at SAM. She will remain director emeritus in honor of her accomplishments.
