For the next two weeks, law enforcement agencies across the country will be buckling down on buckling up.
The “Click It or Ticket“ annual campaign, encouraging every passenger to wear a seat belt when riding in motor vehicles, kicked off on May 23.
“It’s a simple idea that every driver and passenger should keep in mind: buckle up, every time,” said United States Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “Putting on your seat belt is one of the easiest and safest choices you can make.”
Forty-nine percent of occupants in passenger vehicles who were killed in accidents during 2014 were not wearing seat belts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in a May 12 press release,
State seat belt laws vary considerably, but details can be found here.
