Sean “Diddy” Combs wasn’t arrested for the murder of Tupac Shakur.
A fake news story that was posted a few months ago has again gone viral on social media websites this week.
It was originally posted on fake news site Most Extreme News, with the headline: “Bad Boy C.E.O. Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs Arrested in Connection With Murder of Tupac Shakur.” It also includes a digitally altered picture of his mugshot.
Most Extreme News doesn’t have a disclaimer, but the bogus article about Diddy’s arrest was posted in September. The rapper and Ciroc brand ambassador hasn’t been in any trouble with the law.
For his part, on Twitter and Instagram on Friday, he posted an image saying “everybody needs to chill and enjoy life.”
According to hoax-debunking site Snopes.com, “However, neither the New York Police Department nor the Clark County District Attorney’s office announced the arrest (or imminent arrest) of Sean Combs or any other party in connection with the murder of Tupac Shakur on 10 September 2014, and any such announcements would certainly have generated much wider publicity in the American news media has it occurred. Sean Combs remains a free man at large, having just purchased a newly built mansion in Los Angeles’ Westside for $39 million.”

Associates in Combs’ organization have indicated off-the-record that, yes, Sean Combs was in fact under arrest. This disclosure comes just days after the 18th anniversary of the so far unsolved murder of the mega-superstar, Tupac Shakur.
In a press release with the date of September 16th, 2014, a spokesperson for the Las Vegas District Attorney’s office said that there has come sufficient evidence to make an arrest and to obtain conviction for the murder of Shakur in 1996. This most probably indicates that an arrest warrant has been issued.
