House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) says legal challenges against the 2020 election should be allowed to play out.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, he refuses to acknowledge the winner until the legal challenges are complete.
Scalise says the court allows legal challenges on an election.
“But if you want to restore trust by millions of people who are still very frustrated and angry about what happened, that’s why you’ve gotta have this whole system play out. There will be a president sworn in on January 20th, but let’s let this legal process play itself out,” said Scalise.
He pointed to Bush v. Gore, saying nobody disputed that case to the level some people are opposing the legal challenges posed by Trump’s team.
Scalise said the Supreme Court resolved the Bush v. Gore case and there was a swearing-in.
Electors are scheduled to cast the votes on Monday. A joint session of Congress is slated to meet next year on Jan. 6 to count the electoral votes from each state.
