Sandra Bullock, who appeared in a stunning red dress onstage, presented the Best Leading Actor Oscar at the 83rd Academy Award on Sunday at Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
Bullock, 46, won the Best Leading Actress Oscar last year for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side. Right after her big win, she had to deal with rumors of infidelity about her then-husband, Jesse James.
A year later, Bullock is back to the Oscars as a single mother to an adopted son.
“This is a special moment for me: a chance to introduce a woman who is at the top of her craft as a performer, yet who is perhaps admired even more for who she is as a person,” Anne Hathaway, the ceremony’s co-host, said in her introduction of Bullock.
With grace and verve, Bullock presented the Oscar to Colin Firth for his role as King George VI in The King’s Speech. The movie, which won the Best Motion Picture Oscar, scored 12 nominations and four wins on Sunday night.
“I have a feeling my career just peaked,” said Firth after receiving his first Oscar and second Oscar nomination. “My deepest thanks to the academy. But I’m afraid I have to warn you, I’m experiencing stirrings.”
