Ryan Carnan, 29, was shot and killed by police Saturday evening after he killed his mother, set his home on fire, and drove through his neighborhood in Simi Valley, Calif., on a tractor shooting at people.
None of the neighbors were injured in the shooting. Police were still investigating Saturday morning and had the surrounding area blocked off from traffic. The Simi Valley Police Department had received a call from Carnan’s brother saying Carnan had shot and killed their mother at their home—1100 block of Mellow Lane.
Police found the house on fire; the body of a deceased woman found inside has not been confirmed, but police report it is believed to be Carnan’s mother. Neighbors began calling police shortly afterward to report Carnan’s rampage through the neighborhood aboard a tractor. He is said to have pointed the gun at some people without shooting, and actually shot at others.
A witness, Norm Treveva, told KTLA 5: “He just stared at me with this really weird look on his face.”
KTLA reports that police had been to the residence in 2008 on a mental health call.
A bomb squad was called in to remove explosives from the home during the course of the recent investigation.
