Ryan Braun was awarded the National League MVP Tuesday, becoming the first Brewer to do so since Hall of Famer Robin Yount won his second MVP (as a member of the American League) in 1989.
The 28-year-old Braun garnered 20 of a possible 32 first-place votes to edge runner-up Matt Kemp who received 10 first-place votes.
The two put up similar numbers this season with Braun posting an average/on-base/slugging line of .332/.397/.597 to go along with 33 home runs, 111 runs batted in and 33 stolen bases. Meanwhile the Gold Glove winning Kemp hit 39 home runs, while driving in 126 runs, stealing 40 bases, and posting a .324/.399/.586 line.
Braun’s Brewers though, won 96 games en route to the NL Central crown while Kemp’s Dodgers finished third in the West with 82 wins.
