Rosie O'Donnell drew backlash from both sides of the political spectrum after she tweeted about President-elect Donald Trump’s 10-year-old son, Barron.
“Barron Trump Autistic? if so - what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic,” she wrote this week to her 917,000 Twitter followers. As of Friday, her tweet hasn’t been taken down. She also linked a video that suggests the boy has the developmental disorder.
But many commenters lashed out her, saying she was trying to unfairly diagnose the boy.
But O'Donnell defended her comment, saying she’s raising two children with autism spectrum disorders. “He is young baron - and truly angelic - beautiful like ivanka - new york city has some amazing AUTISM services w/inclusion, (sic)” she wrote.
“Not my movie clip - lots of us - who raise autistic children notice things many would miss… somethings felt familiar #NOshameAUTISM,” she continued.
Much of the video footage posted on Twitter was sourced from an event on Election Day when Barron’s father won the presidency—Barron had stayed up until about 3 a.m. local time.
But some people, including conservative pundit Mike Cernovich, said O'Donnell is “going after a 10-year-old. That’s what trash exists on the left.”
