A police officer from Burlington County, N.J., is facing murder charges that stemmed from a road rage incident, it was reported Sunday.
Joseph Walker, a 40-year-old sworn officer with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office., is currently being held on $1 million bond for a fatal shooting on Saturday night. He is accused of killing Maryland resident Joseph Harvey Jr., 36, near Interstate 97 south of Baltimore, reported Philyburbs.com.
Elena Russo, with Maryland State Police, told CNN that Walker’s wife and three children were in the vehicle during the shooting.
In the incident, police said that the confrontation started around a mile south of where the shooting took place, reported Reuters. Harvey and a passenger got out their car, and Harvey walked toward Walker’s minivan.
As he approached, Walker fired a Glock .45 pistol at Harvey, police said. ABC-6 television reported that Harvey shouted out that he was a police officer before firing.
Harvey was later taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center and was pronounced dead with three gunshot wounds.
Neighbors told ABC they were surprised to hear that Walker was involved in a fatal shooting.
“Not Joe, anybody but Joe. It’s just something that you would never see in him. It’s hard to believe it, it’s just shocking,” said neighbor Wayne Stevenson.
