The BBC comedy Rev wraps up series 3 with episode 6 on April 28.
The episode will be the last for a while, and possibly for good, according to Tom Hollander (Reverend Adam Smallborne).
“I really don’t know,” he said on BBC Radio 5.
“At the moment, we all want to just pause. It’s such a special thing, Rev. It’s been so magical in terms of how much people take it to their hearts.”
He added: “The idea of not doing it anymore is sad but also quite attractive, because you wouldn’t want for it to ever get worse.”
Meanwhile, the official description for the series 3 finale has been released.
“Adam attempts to find a new career outside the Church following the closure of St Saviour’s and sets his sights on becoming a management consultant, but has difficulty leaving his vocation and congregation behind,” it says. “Meanwhile, his not-so-merry former parishioners try to cope without their vicar and their church.”
Hollander did say that if there’s not a series 4 then there could be a spinoff film.
“I think we need to find a story to justify 90 minutes,” he said.
There’s certainly enough interest to justify another series or film.
The Guardian reports that production company Big Talk pre-sold the show in 141 actors, and called Hollander one of the funniest actors of his generation.
