Texas Sen. Ted Cruz could have a role in Donald Trump’s presidential cabinet, according to a report from Bloomberg News.
Cruz went to the Trump Tower in New York on Nov. 15 but he didn’t tell reporters waiting outside that he was going to work under Trump’s administration.
Bloomberg reported that Cruz is being considered for attorney general.
When asked for a response, Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told the news outlet: “Cruz is focused on serving Texans in the Senate. He was there today to offer help in promoting the conservative policies that were campaigned on and that he’s long fought for.”
Other reports indicate that Sen. Jeff Sessions and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach are under consideration for the job.
In the GOP primaries, Cruz was branded as “Lyin' Ted” by Trump, and Cruz stopped short of endorsing Trump at the Republican National Convention, but the two eventually put aside their differences after Trump took the nomination. Cruz eventually campaigned for Trump in October.
Cruz also noted the current state in the Senate.
“Well, listen, we need to see how the Democrats respond” to the Republican Party, Cruz told Fox News. “I think the lesson they took from this election is they weren’t liberal and extreme enough and they’ve got to get even more whacked out and disconnected from the American people. I hope some saner heads prevail in the Democratic Party. I hope there are Democratic senators who actually want to come and do the job we’ve been given.”
