{etss 291}Legendary Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor has passed away from congestive heart failure at Cedars–Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was 79.
The actress had been suffering from ill health for a number of years and had heart surgery in 2009. She was hospitalized with symptoms of heart failure in February.
Taylor gave her last interview in February with reality television personality Kim Kardashian for the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
When Kardashian joked about being “six husbands and some big jewels behind” her Cleopatra idol Taylor replied that she never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands.
“For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else,” Taylor had said in the past. “I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course, I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things.”
“But I have never felt more alive than when I watched my children delight in something, never more alive than when I have watched a great artist perform, and never richer than when I have scored a big check to fight AIDS,” she continued. “Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.”
Of her three most famous diamond rings, Taylor told Kardashian that the 33.19-carat Krupp diamond was her favorite—her first jewelry gift from Richard Burton.
She recalled various jewelry adventures as well as her Edith Head lavender dress that she wore to the 1970 Oscars, which was specially designed around the Taylor-Burton diamond.
Taylor’s flamboyant and generous nature was apparent in her recent Twitter posts, which she used extensively.
“You are who you are. All you can do in this world is help others to be who they are and better themselves and those around them,” she tweeted last July, followed by: “Give. Remember always to give. That is the thing that will make you grow.”
The British-born actress is survived by four children and nine grandchildren.
