Rebellion Racing has proved itself in Europe and Asia; now it is coming to challenge the American Le Mans Series.
Rebellion, winner of the 2011 European Le Mans series and 2012 World Endurance Championship P1 privateer titles, and best P1 privateer in the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup series told Speed.com that it will compete with at least one Lola-Toyota for the 2013 American Le Mans Series season.
After the team won the 2012 ALMS finale, Petit Le Mans, team principal Bart Hayden said he might want to race part of the ALMS schedule. Those plans have since expanded to include the entire season.
Rebellion has three Lola B12/60-Toyotas; the team could feasibly run one in ALMS and use the other to defend its WEC privateer championship.
Or, Rebellion could choose to bring two cars to North America and not worry so much about the WEC title, having been the best privateer in the field two years running—and also being guaranteed to finish behind the factory entries.
In ALMS Rebellion would face competition from 2012 P1 champion Muscle Milk Pickett Racing and 2011 champ Dyson Racing—teams more on Rebellion’s level in terms of funding.
If Rebellion brings two cars and Dyson returns with two, the P1 field could be five strong in 2013. If rumors that Muscle Milk might also add a second car are true, and it is a P1 car, fans could be treated to a battle reminiscent of ALMS prototype racing’s glory days of 2006–2009.
