A sea of umbrellas flowed through a rainy Taste of Danforth festival last Friday to Sunday. Despite the downpour, over 300,000 visitors turned out to enjoy samplings of traditional Greek food and music. The call of “Opa”—a happy Greek greeting—could be heard almost everywhere.
The festival has been held on Danforth from Broadview to Jones for over 14 years. The area, nicknamed ‘Greektown’ for all the Greeks who have lived and worked there since the ‘70’s, is the largest Greek business community in North America and the third largest in the world after Greece and Melbourne, Australia.
