The famed Quicken Loans bracket challenge--which challenged people to try to complete a perfect NCAA tournament bracket for a $1 billion prize--has been closed.
The contest was closed on March 20 at 1 a.m. Contestants had the ability to change their brackets before they locked in at that time.
The contest was open to 15 million people; it’s unclear how many registered.
Even if there are no perfect brackets, people can still win money.
People who get the top 20 scoring brackets will each win $100,000, though that money is reportedly being paid off either through payments on mortgages or a payment on a new house.
The company included questions about people’s mortgage during the registration. “Quicken Loans is one of the nation’s top mortgage lenders, and we’re interested to see if we can help you save money on your mortgage. You have the option to be contacted by a Quicken Loans Home Loan Expert, but you can always opt out if you are not interested,” the company said.
The contest became so popular that there were technical issues but those were later resolved.
If two or more people get a perfect bracket then the $1 billion prize will be split as opposed to each winning $1 billion.
