NEW YORK—As renowned designers and celebrities gather this week at Lincoln Center for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, another wave of influential looks is launched for the coming season. The Epoch Times visited the Fashion Institute of Technology to ask the fashion world’s stars of tomorrow: What is your style?
Arielle H., 22, Manhattan, Fashion Merchandising Student
Jason Wu’s collection really caught my eye. The other [collections from the Fashion Week] were, I would say too unrealistic. I just dress very simple, like lots of T-shirts and jeans. Many pieces from the fashion week runway followed the Saharan styles and used leather. It’s not that much different from winter trends in the past years.
Mina Braglia, 19, Manhattan, Student
I just put on anything comfortable. I like to apply makeup to compliment the features of my face. Fashion often comes and goes, and anything can become fashionable. I just like things that are suitable for me. I’ve been wearing jeans a lot. I only put on heels on special occasions. I can’t bear walking with them in Manhattan.
Kailie Mitchell, 21, Bronx, Merchandiser and Photographer
[My style is] Anything grungy and vintage. I actually run an online vintage shop myself. Vintage is definitely going to trend for quite a while. The clothes I sell are mostly from the ’70s and ’80s, and I try to make them look old. Many of the trendy styles now are from the ’90s, like colorful tights. It is always that something that has been trendy before will come up again.
Miguel Fernandez, 34, Uptown Manhattan, Fine Art Student
Because I am a fine art student, I have to dress casually so that I can go to classes and paint. But, if I have the freedom to choose, I would dress very clean and well fitted. That includes clothes that are proportional. Like, I think baggy clothes can look good on some people but not on the others. And because I have a long face, I dress in darker shades to make it look shorter. I basically shop everywhere cheap, like H&M and Gap. Once in a while, I go to Macy’s.
