NEW YORK—With trees and flowers blooming and blossoming, spring brings out feelings of good cheer and warmth after spending most of the winter indoors. On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, Madison Square Park was full of people enjoying the nice weather and spring scenery. The Epoch Times asked “What does spring mean to you?”
Erin Kohout, 24, dancer, Crown Heights, Brooklyn
Spring is a time when everybody comes outside, especially in a city like New York we really are like animals in the wild, we’re hibernating; then all of a sudden everyone is out, everyone brings their kids out. Everybody is a lot more positive and friendlier. For me it means getting rid of coats and extra clothing and being able to walk around with a lot less; because I’m a dancer I always carry a lot around with me.

It’s like a rebirth, normally it means allergies, it’s nice to see the same familiar ants in my kitchen and flies in my yard. It’s almost like a ritual, nostalgic. The light, the warmth; I get to wear different shirts again. Like everybody else I have positive feelings toward spring, beyond all the bugs in my house it’s enjoyable.

I’m really excited, I love the humidity and I love to sweat. I was so sick of the winter, I was so depressed, and today for the first time I feel so excited and happy to come out. It’s like a whole change of mood just to step outside; it’s like a different kind of energy. I’m in a really good mood. It’s upsetting that its going downhill from today. It feels kind of summery.

Spring is beautiful and gives you new hope. I was sitting here looking at the fashions, people, and the clothing. I like the flowers the most, and I love the sun, as you can see I got sunburn already!

It’s warm, the sundresses. Spring itself, all that is accumulated into it, it’s just really comfortable. You don’t have to layer, so you can be free, so free.
