In an exclusive interview with People, the ex-wife of Prince, Mayte Garcia, had difficulty with processing her feelings after learning of her ex-husband’s death.
“I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling,” said Garcia in a statement through her manager Gladys Gonzalez. “This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated.”

The woman who inspired Prince’s chart topping hit, “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” went on to say: “I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally,” she continues. “He’s with our son now.”
The couple met in 1990, after which Garcia was hired as a dancer for his Diamonds and Pearls Tour. It wasn’t long before they became a couple, and later got married in 1996 in Minneapolis. That same year, they had a son who they named Boy Gregory. Boy Gregory ultimately died from Pfeiffer syndrome, a rare birth defect that affects the skull.
The couple divorced in 2000 and have remained friends ever since.
