Following the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, Prince Harry wrote a letter to the city of Orlando, expressing his condolences.
“I wanted to write and express my most since condolences to the people of Orlando after the horrific attack on the Pulse nightclub,” he wrote.
Harry hosted his Paralympic-style Invictus Games in May in Orlando, and after spending time in the city, “I know what a warm and welcoming community it is. In spite of this senseless act, I have no doubt that the love and friendship of your city will remain strong,” he wrote in the letter.
“I would also like to pass on my deepest admiration to the law enforcement officers who attended the nightclub during the attack for their extraordinary bravery and professionalism,” he continued.
He added: “Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones at this most difficult of times. You are all in our prayers as you face the days and weeks ahead.”
Prince William and Kate also signed their names in a book of condolences for the victims, and Queen Elizabeth II tweeted: “Prince Philip & I have been shocked by the events in Orlando. Our thoughts & prayers are with all those who have been affected.”
The Department of Justice will release excerpts of the Orlando shooter’s calls with police.
“What we’re going to be doing … is talking more about what happened, sadly, inside the nightclub,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. “We'll be releasing a partial transcript of the calls between the killer and the hostage negotiators so that people can, in fact, see the type of interaction that was had there.”
Lynch said that authorities won’t be releasing shooter Omar Mateen’s pledges of allegiance to the ISIS terrorist group.
In the worst terrorist attack since 9/11, Mateen shot and killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub on June 12. He was killed by police.
