An article saying President Barack Obama has announced plans to run for a third presidential term is fake.

The report was published on satire news website National Report.

“President Barack Obama shocked the country this morning with news that he is running for a third term,” it says, adding: “‘I can’t abandon the American people now when they need me more than ever,” Obama told reporters at a press conference this morning. “We’ve come this far as a nation, now is not the time to do something different. This is the change you wanted and this is the change you’re getting.’”

According to a disclaimer, National Report doesn’t post real news stories.

“National Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news. Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental,” it states. The disclaimer was taken down, but it’s accessible via Archive.org.

The satirical article about Obama’s third term had thousands of “likes” and shares on Facebook. A number of people apparently believed it.
