Phil Oliva (R/C/REF–Somers) won the republican primary for New York’s 18th Congressional District, according to preliminary data.

Oliva beat republican challenger Kenneth Del Vecchio (R–Warwick), a lawyer, former New Jersey municipal  judge, and Hoboken International Film Festival chairman, by 15 percent, according to the preliminary results.

Now Oliva, an advisor to Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and president of communications consulting firm Gipper Communications, LLC, is running against Democratic incumbent Sean Patrick Maloney, who has served as the district’s representative since 2012.

Maloney did not have a Democratic challenger.

The 18th Congressional District covers Orange and Putnam counties and parts of Westchester and Dutchess counties.
