NATURE'S POWER: Amazed by the power and force of the storm’s wind, Josh Anderson of the Carthage Fire Department looks to the sky after discovering debris protruding from the side of a house in Joplin, Mo. Anderson was conducting a search and rescue mission after a massive tornado passed through the town, killing at least 116 people.
The tornado, rated a high-end EF4 with gusts of 200-plus mph, ripped through the town of about 50,000 people Sunday evening. The death toll reached 124 by Tuesday evening, as another dangerous storm front moved into the area.
With over 3 billion in damages so far, the tornado is being called the deadliest single tornado in the United States since 1947.
