PORT JERVIS—The Port Jervis community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) for veterans is going to be moving, according to officials from the VA.
The chief engineer for the project, John Cliffe, said at a veterans town hall meeting on Sept. 24 that they were looking at new locations but had not decided on anything yet.
The new clinic would be funded completely by the Choice Program, which was signed into law in 2014 to let veterans receive coverage for non-VA doctors under certain criteria.
The current clinic at 150 Pike street Cliffe described as similar to a railroad apartment with a waiting room that was more like a hallway than a room.
Margaret B. Caplan, the medical director of the VA Hudson Valley region said they used noise machines to protect people’s privacy because the waiting room was so close to the visitation rooms.
“The overall message is that help is on the way—we’re going to get a new CBOC with a better layout,” Cliffe said.
He said they are looking at a building between 6,000 and 7,000 square feet and is hoping that the work will start in May and be completed by July with a soft opening in August.
