The City of Port Jervis was awarded $360,000 to construct a pedestrian mall that is compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The award is part of over $11 million in federal and state funding to make sidewalks and crosswalks in upstate New York ADA-compliant.
Sen. Charles Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand made the announcement Sept. 21 and said that the funding will come from the Federal Highway Administration and the State Department of Transportation. Other counties set to receive funding include Westchester, Rockland, Ulster, Dutchess, and Albany.
