NEW YORK—New Green City, the city’s largest annual green event, according to organizers, returns to Union Square Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The free event features exhibits and booths from a wide range of green-minded organizations, city agencies, and businesses, including the Food and Finance High School, Randall’s Island Park Alliance, and Gowanus Canal Conservancy.
On the main stage, half-hour presentations and discussions include Robbie Lock, from the event’s organizer GrowNYC, talking about school recycling; Paul Mankiewicz of The Gaia Institute discussing innovative green roofs; and designer Leif Percifield presenting a project that monitors sewage overflow and sends texts to anyone interested in when overflows happen.
At 11:30 a.m. a solar-powered cook-off between local chefs Jennifer Iserloh and Don Obusan will take place.
