Politico on Tuesday reported that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden chose Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as his running mate, a report the news outlet said was published in error.
In a piece about Biden’s prospective vice presidential nominee, Politico said Biden “chose Kamala Harris to become his running mate for the 2020 election on Aug. 1.”
Biden has never used the quote that was included.
A Politico spokesman told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement: “Our standard practice is to use ‘lorem ipsum’ as placeholder text, which in this instance obviously did not happen. We regret the error and any confusion that it caused.”
Politico did not address where the quote attributed to Biden was from.
In the updated article, there is an editor’s note that states: “An earlier version of this graphic mistakenly reported that Biden had made his VP selection. We regret the mistake.”
Mark Bednar, spokesman for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), appeared to first notice the article.
“Huh? Politico labeled Sen. Kamala Harris as Biden’s running mate... that he chose on August 1 (4 days from now),” he wrote on Twitter.
Biden campaign spokesman TJ Ducklo said in a social media statement about Politico’s report: “Folks, this is not real. As the vice president said earlier today, he looks forward to making his announcement in August.”
Biden told reporters in Delaware on Tuesday that he’s going to choose his running mate in the first week in August.
“I’m going to try to figure out how to trick you all so I can meet with them in person. You got crews outside my house,” he said.
Biden held notes that included references to Harris.
Under her name, the notes said: “Do not hold grudges,” “Campaigned with me & Jill,” “Talented,” “Great help to campaign,” and “Great respect for her.”
Besides Harris, others being considered include Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), and former national security adviser Susan Rice.
