Indianapolis Colts’ Vice Chairman Bill Polian and Vice President and General Manager Chris Polian have been relieved of their duties according to a statement by owner Jim Irsay released Monday on the team’s website.
Said Irsay of the decision, “I had a chance to express to them, and Bill in particular how hard it was and the appreciation the franchise has for all that has been done. Obviously, (Bill) and I go back 30 years. So this is difficult, this is the tough part of this business.”
Bill Polian originally joined the franchise in 1998 as General Manager and immediately drafted Peyton Manning over Ryan Leaf with the first pick of the draft. The Colts would eventually make the playoffs 11 times under his watch, but faltered this past season going 2-14 without Manning.
Chris Polian joined the Colts in 1998 as well and was promoted to General Manager four years ago.
