Playstation 4 will launch in Japan soon, with a February 22 release date.
Ahead of the Japan launch, global PS4 sales hit 5.3 million as of February 8, according to Sony.
That’s compared to Xbox One’s 3.6 million so far.
It’s expected that PS4 sales will be boosted even further once it’s released in Japan, because the Xbox One is already available there.
Why was the PS4 not released in the country in the first place?
Sony was waiting for when more games would be ready for the market, a Sony executive told Eurogamer.
“Sony just wants to make sure that when PlayStation 4 launches in Japan there is a good line-up of titles for Japan,” the console’s lead architect and Knack creative director Mark Cerny said.
“Perhaps you could say that a few western developers have been more aggressive in readying titles for the hardware.”
