Police in Ecuador have rescued a small, terrified sloth on the side of a busy highway, photos show.

Photos of the lost sloth clinging to a traffic sign have gone viral. The incident took place on a road new Quevedo.

In an update, the Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador said the mammal was returned to the wild after getting “checked by a vet, who determined that it was in optimal conditions for return to its habitat,” reported the Daily Telegraph.

Some users noted that the pool of liquid is a sign the animal went down from its tree habitat to use the bathroom.

According to the Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador:

Be advised, the sloth bear rescued by our unis was reviewed by a veterinarian, the same one that determined that I was in optimal conditions to be returning to their habitat.
