ALLENTOWN, Pa.—Republican U.S. House candidate Lisa Scheller told attendees at a campaign event that she is running for Congress to protect the American dream for future generations.
Scheller—who is the CEO of Silberline Manufacturing Co.—is looking to unseat incumbent Democratic Representative Susan Wild. Midterms are less than two weeks away, and polling suggests the two candidates are evenly matched.
Scheller held a press conference after a fundraising event on Wednesday, to talk about her platform, which emphasizes crime, border security, and inflation.
“What I want to make sure happens is that we protect the American dream for generations to come. Because right now, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and my opponent, Susan Wild are working hard to turn it into a socialist nightmare,” she said.
Scheller emphasized the importance of supporting law enforcement and having a secure border.
“I want to make sure that we’re putting forth bills that are going to land on Biden’s desk over and over again,” she said.
“One, we need to get tough on crime. Two, we need to secure our border. Three, we need to open up Pennsylvania’s energy,” she said.
“Pennsylvania should be a world superpower in energy. We have enough energy underneath Pennsylvania to fuel our entire country for over 200 years. And it is liquefied natural gas that is absolutely pure.”
Scheller said that properly addressing these issues will lead to reducing inflation.
Nikki Haley Endorsement
Scheller is endorsed by former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley who came to Pennsylvania’s seventh congressional district to support her campaignHaley told the media on Wednesday why she endorsed Scheller in September.
“With Lisa, you get someone that understands that you have to hold criminals accountable, someone that knows that we have to have transparency in the classroom, and really get our kids back up to speed, somebody that understands that we have to be energy dominant, and someone that understands that the only way we can deal with our enemies around the world is to have strength here at home.”
Pro Legal Immigration
Scheller said she is pro-immigration and wants to open the door to legal immigration while stressing the need to secure the southern border and stop illegal immigration.“Because right now, we have open borders that are supported by my opponent with fentanyl flowing through those borders—enough to kill Americans more than seven times over,” she said.
Scheller said her Congress run is about protecting the American dream and keeping America as “a beacon of light, freedom, and hope for the world.”
Her grandparents came to America more than 100 years ago seeking the American dream—personal liberty, equality of opportunity, and trust in the wisdom of the common person.
“Right now, that American dream is under threat,” she said.
Reasons to Support
Supporters who attended a fundraising event to support Scheller’s bid for Congress shared why she has their vote.“I trust her; she’s honest," Karen Frey, a retired nurse, told The Epoch Times.
“And she just wants to do a good job for Pennsylvania for us people, and she wants to make a difference.”
Some voters are looking for a person in Congress with fresh aspirations that hasn’t held office before.
“I think our country is going overall in the wrong direction," physician Marion Mass said.
“I feel very badly for what people are paying for everything, prices at the pump, prices for health care, which is a big issue for me since I’m a paediatrician,” Mass said.
“Overall, people are paying more, they’re getting less, and something really needs to change,” Mass said.
“I think she’s in it because she loves this community. She loves this country, and I’m here to support her.”
Beth Gdowik, a sales representative at a technology company, had similar comments.
“People aren’t happy with what’s going on in the country today," Gdowik said.
“And I think that alone gives Lisa an opportunity to unseat the current Congresswoman Susan Wild.”
