HONG KONG—High up on the 52nd floor of IFC II, at the UBS Auditorium, another lofty competitor was announced on Thursday Oct 20 for the 2016 UBS Hong Kong Open, the European Tour event to be played at Hong Kong Golf Club, Fanling on Dec 8-11.
Patrick Reed, 26 year old hero of the recent American Ryder Cup victory, has again added his name to compete in this year’s Hong Kong premium event. Finishing joint 3rd last year he is hoping to lift the top prize this time out but also looks to explore more of Hong Kong.
“I’m really looking forward to playing at the UBS Hong Kong Open again after finishing tied third last year,” he said. “It’s a fantastic course to play, the atmosphere is great and I always like to spend some of my free time enjoying what Hong Kong has to offer, it’s an amazing city” he said by audio link during the press conference.
American Patrick Reed (world ranked 7), joins Danny Willett (9) and Justin Rose (11) will mean 3 of the world’s top 11 players have already signed up,.
Also announced is the participation of European Tour competitor Rafael Cabrera Bello of Spain. He too had a successful Ryder Cup and is currently ranked 6th in the European Tour Race to Dubai.
“I’m really thrilled to be coming back for the UBS Hong Kong Open,” Cabrera Bello said. “I’ve played this event a couple of times and it’s always a great challenge because it attracts a quality field of players. I hope I can continue to build on my recent good form and kick start the new European Tour season in the best possible fashion.”
Amy Lo, Head of UBS Hong Kong announced that entry to the event will be free of charge on both Thursday and Friday this year.
