Parents discovered a dead newborn while making their teenage daughter’s bed, police say

Southern California parents apparently discovered a dead newborn baby when they were making their teenage daughter’s bed. The daughter, who was not named, didn’t know that she was pregnant until she had given birth. She gave birth 24 to 36 hours earlier, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The teen’s parents called 911 on Monday from their Chula Vista home after found the infant’s body.

“The child appeared to be have been born hours or days prior,” police said in a statement.

“The parents of that minor found that child deceased in the bed anywhere from 24 to 36 hours later and called us,” Chula Vista Police Lt. Fritz Reber was quoted by NBC San Diego as saying.

The baby appeared to be full-term, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces, Reber added.

Chula Vista Police as well as the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office are now investigating the newborn’s death to find if a crime has occurred.

The cause of the infant’s death was not immediately known.
