A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off of Papua New Guinea on Thursday, according the U.S. earthquake agency
The quake hit 50 miles south-southeast of Panguna and 57 miles south of Arawa, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The earthquake had a depth of 44.7 miles.
Papua New Guinea is located along the “Ring of Fire” that encircles the Pacific Ocean. It is considered the most seismically active region in the world.
